Freya's Falcon
October 2006
2B pencil on cartridge paper, 40x28cm
A sketch of a gyrfalcon drawn and burnt as a ritual offering to Freyja, who is not one of the gods I worship, but who nonetheless answered a prayer the other day on behalf of a friend who does honour her. It seemed polite to say thankyou. Apparently the traditional offering is to inscribe the V of a bird in flight onto a stone and fling it into the sea, but if I'm making an offering of a bird, then paper and fire and air seem somehow more appropriate. In any case, I don't live near the sea.
