Tea Dragons
(with Stefania Bounajuti)
April 2008
Chinese ink and rose tea on watercolour paper, 28" x 18"
This painting was created through collaborative improvisation between two artists. The painting jam which resulted in this artwork was spontaneous and intuitive, in which which both artists worked on the canvas simultaneously, feeding off each other and refining the composition as they worked. The painting depicts two delicate dragons, each perched on a tree branch in front of a heavy moon. Rose tea was used as a wash to add a hint of subtle colour. As with mandalas, this painting can be rotated, as the dragons each cling to their edge of the paper, facing each other across the moon. They don't quite know which way up they want to be, but perhaps you can help them choose.
